What is CJ Affiliate
CJ Affiliate is the affiliate network run by CJ, founded in Santa Barbara, California, in 1998 as Commission Junction. Brands (advertisers) run commission-based programs on it, and publishers promote them through websites, blogs, social media, search, email, and apps, earning a commission on the sales, leads, or other actions they drive. CJ sits in between: it tracks clicks and orders, reviews every publisher for compliance before their first payment, and pays publishers from funds the advertiser deposits. Around the network, CJ sells CJ Influence for creator campaigns, CJ Leads for lead generation, and CJ Marketplaces for brands selling on Amazon. CJ has been part of Publicis Groupe since Publicis bought Epsilon, CJ’s parent at the time, in 2019, and says more than 3,800 brands run programs on its platform.
Where CJ Affiliate fits in 2026
CJ fits established brands that want a large publisher network instead of recruiting every partner themselves, plus the services a network runs centrally: compliance monitoring, publisher payments in dozens of currencies, and, if wanted, full program management by CJ’s own team. Brands can also run the program themselves or through an agency. Situational Commissioning pays publishers different rates by customer status, promotion type, or customer location, for example more for a new customer than for a returning one, and CJ’s insights break results down into new, lapsed, and returning customers per partner, along with affiliate incrementality.
CJ’s tracking options are built for browser restrictions. The Universal Tag runs on every page and reads a first-party cookie that your server sets from the CJ click ID, and advertisers can also report new orders, restatements, and cancellations server-side through CJ’s GraphQL Tracking API. Shopify and Magento stores get free plugins, and the Shopify app adds concurrent tracking and automated order corrections. CJ has also moved into AI search, with a managed AI Visibility and Optimization service and a partnership with Channel3 that prepares product data for AI shopping assistants.
The trade-off is transparency. CJ publishes no advertiser pricing, so you only learn the network fees in a sales conversation, while Awin and impact.com list self-serve prices. On Trustpilot, where most reviewers are publishers, CJ scores 1.5 out of 5, with complaints about withheld payouts and deactivated accounts. And CJ’s reports credit publishers with the orders CJ’s own tracking attributes to them, so whether those orders are incremental is easier to judge against your own attribution data across all channels.
How CJ Affiliate compares to alternatives
Versus Awin: Awin is an affiliate network founded in 2000 that says it connects brands with more than a million partners, and it merged ShareASale into its platform in 2025. Unlike CJ, Awin publishes advertiser pricing: Access costs $49 a month plus a 3.5% tracking fee per transaction, Accelerate starts at $99 a month plus 2.5%, and Advanced is priced individually. CJ quotes every program on its own and bundles compliance review and optional managed services. Versus impact.com: impact.com is partnership software with a marketplace of more than 250,000 partners, used to run affiliate, creator, referral, and retail media programs on one platform. Self-serve Starter costs $30 a month plus 2.5% of revenue, and Essentials ($500 a month) and Pro ($2,500) include set amounts of partner payouts. CJ follows the network model: publisher access, payments, and compliance come with the contract, and CJ’s team can run the program for you. Versus Rakuten Advertising: Rakuten Advertising is the affiliate and influencer marketing business of Rakuten Group and, like CJ, a full-service network for large brands. Beyond its partner network, it reaches shoppers through Rakuten’s own properties. CJ belongs to Publicis and is aligned with Publicis Media.
FAQ about CJ Affiliate
How much does CJ Affiliate cost?
CJ publishes no price list. Publishers join for free, and advertisers apply through CJ’s advertiser form for a custom quote. On top of the commissions they set for publishers, advertisers pay CJ network fees: CJ’s Tracking API documentation, for example, describes cancelling an order so that neither the commission nor the fee is charged. Because CJ quotes each program individually, ask for the total cost including every fee before you sign.
Is CJ Affiliate free to join?
For publishers, yes. A CJ publisher account is free, but you need an active website with a valid URL to apply, and each advertiser decides whether to accept you into its program. Once you’re signed up, you can see every advertiser on the network and what each one pays. Advertisers pay commissions plus CJ’s fees, which CJ quotes individually.
Does CJ Affiliate have a free trial or a demo?
There is no free trial. Advertisers apply through CJ’s form, which asks for an active website or app and a willingness to pay commissions on sales or leads. Even CJ’s free Shopify app requires a CJ advertiser account, which is created outside Shopify.
Where do I log in to CJ Affiliate?
Advertisers and publishers both log in to the CJ Account Manager at members.cj.com, which the Login link on cj.com also opens. If your password isn’t recognized, the Login Help page sends you a new one by email.
How does CJ Affiliate work?
Advertisers set up a program with commission terms, and publishers apply to it, promote the brand with CJ tracking links, and earn a commission on each sale or lead. CJ tracks the clicks and orders, gives the advertiser time to review transactions before they lock, pays publishers from the advertiser’s deposited funds, and charges the advertiser its network fees. CJ also screens publishers for fraud and policy breaches, which it calls Network Quality Assurance.
How do advertisers get started on CJ Affiliate?
After applying and agreeing terms, advertisers implement tracking with CJ’s client integration team, using the Universal Tag with a server-set cookie, the Tracking API, or a Shopify or Magento plugin. They then publish program terms, recruit publishers in the Recruit Partners dashboard, which shows Similarweb traffic data and creator profiles powered by CreatorIQ, and fund their account so CJ can pay commissions. Situational Commissioning sets different rates by customer status, promotion type, or location.
How do publishers earn money with CJ Affiliate?
Publishers sign up for free, apply to advertiser programs, and promote products with tracking links created in the platform, for example with the Deep Link Generator, which turns a page on the brand’s site into a tracked link. Each advertiser sets its commission per sale, lead, or other action in its program terms. Content publishers in CJ’s Content Certification program get instant approval from participating brands.
How does CJ Affiliate pay publishers?
Commissions start as New, lock after the advertiser’s review period, and are then paid out in one of CJ’s two monthly payment runs. Your closed balance has to reach the minimum payment amount set in your account, and the advertiser must have enough funds deposited. Through CJ’s partnership with Payoneer, publishers can be paid in their local currency to a local bank account.
Who owns CJ Affiliate?
CJ Affiliate belongs to Publicis Groupe. Publicis bought Epsilon, CJ’s parent company at the time, from Alliance Data in July 2019, and CJ is aligned with Publicis Media. CJ (formerly Commission Junction) was founded in Santa Barbara, California, in 1998, and its CEO is Santi Pierini.
How does CJ Affiliate track sales?
The CJ Universal Tag runs on every page of the advertiser’s site and needs a first-party cookie named cje, which the site’s server sets from the CJ event ID in the affiliate link, so the tag can credit the order on the confirmation page. Advertisers can also send new orders, restatements, and cancellations from their own servers through CJ’s GraphQL Tracking API. For GDPR, CJ passes the visitor’s consent status to the tag through a URL parameter.
Does CJ Affiliate work with Shopify?
Yes. CJ Network Integration, CJ’s free Shopify app, sets up CJ tracking without custom development and adds concurrent tracking and automated order corrections. It is rated 4.2 from 11 reviews on the Shopify App Store, and you still need a CJ advertiser account to use it.
Does CJ Affiliate have an API?
Yes. CJ’s Developer Portal documents GraphQL APIs for commission details, product feeds, program terms, and promotional properties, REST APIs such as Link Search, Advertiser Lookup, and Publisher Lookup, and the GraphQL Tracking API for advertisers’ orders. Requests are authenticated with personal access tokens.
Does CJ Affiliate use AI?
Yes, mainly as a service. CJ’s AI Visibility and Optimization offering measures how a brand appears in answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and other AI assistants, identifies the publishers and creators behind that visibility, and runs affiliate campaigns to improve it. Through a partnership with Channel3, CJ advertisers can also enrich and distribute their product data so AI shopping apps and agents can recommend their products.
What are CJ Affiliate reviews?
CJ Affiliate is rated 3.8 on G2 with 48 reviews. On Trustpilot it scores 1.5 from 268 reviews, most of them from publishers describing withheld payouts or deactivated accounts. See the G2 reviews for detailed feedback.
What are CJ Affiliate alternatives?
Among networks, the closest alternatives are Awin, which merged ShareASale into its platform in 2025, and Rakuten Advertising. Brands that want partnership software rather than a network look at impact.com or Partnerize. Shopify brands that prefer to recruit and pay affiliates themselves can use Shopify apps such as UpPromote or Refersion.
CJ Affiliate pricing
CJ Affiliate uses custom pricing on request. Billing: Publisher commissions plus CJ network fees. There is no free trial. See the full CJ Affiliate pricing page for current tiers and any add-ons.
